Lavender + Tea Tree Zero-Waste Natural Deodorant Recipe

There is something so satisfying about creating your own products at home from natural ingredients and discovering that not only do they work but they can cost a fraction of the price. These deodorant bars are a very good example of that. You can also have a play around with different topical essential oils to create your perfect scent, which is always fun.

Recipe:

Makes approx 100ml

Prep time: 5 minutes

100g organic cacao butter shaved or grated ( I usually get mine from the bulk wholefoods store)

2 tablespoons aluminum free baking soda

2 tablespoons arrowroot powder

8 drops pure therapeutic grade lavender essential oil, none of this chemist stuff. I get mine from doTERRA

1 drop pure therapeutic grade tea tree oil (same as above, must be pure)

Shave or grate 100g of cacao butter into a basin and gently melt in a double boiler until a liquid is formed. Add in all other ingredients and pour mixture into moulds. 

Place moulds into refrigerator for 1 hour. Remove from moulds and use as normal. 

I store my extra bars in the fridge or give as gifts to friends.

***A side note before you make them. If you are in a super hot climate you are better off pouring your mixture into small tins to use as a cream/paste. As the base is cacao butter, they will melt at the same rate as chocolate does!
