A bit of a random ponder… A friend reminded me recently that there are many different types of rest after I told her how nice and novel it felt to spend some time sewing on the weekend for the second time since baby.

In this season of life where we feel like we are {very lucky to be} on a constant treadmill of tasks that have no end point it was so novel to start and complete a small creative project and to make something that will now serve a purpose, get a lot of use and bring a bit of colour and fun.

While I was working away, ducking and weaving in amongst the happy household chaos and pausing and restarting many times, I was pondering the labour of love that goes into making something from scratch with pre-loved material:

⭐️ Physically selecting/shopping for second hand/used/preloved fabric
⭐️ Prepping fabric: Soaking, washing, drying & ironing
⭐️ Cutting & Sewing
Not to mention ( if you were to be selling it) photographing, pricing, either attending a market, stocking in a store or posting online and shipping.

When you are making something with such limited quantities of one fabric you have to be so considered with how you use it. You can’t just order more of it. I think it makes the end product special and unique. What it lacks in perfection and uniformity it makes up for in story and intention and I think more of that is never a bad thing 😊

I think that also goes for clothing that has been visibly repaired. 🙌🏼

Also, how epic is this nostalgic @kendonegallery print? The quilt cover was a bit ripped in a few spots and from a second hand but I was still nervous cutting into it and I will be using every last scrap!

Sometimes it’s a wholefood recipe, sometimes a toxin free low waste DIY home and body one, here and there some upcycled sewing projects, or simply some ocean & swimming appreciation.. today it’s a simple idea to upcycle some of that kinder art 🖼️ into sweet little ( or big ) boxes.
Use these to store treasures or as gift wrapping…

Step 1: trim your art into a square
Step 2: fold like so 🎥
Step 3: ( optional ) trim a second piece of art 2cm smaller than the first and repeat step 1

Hit save for the next rainy day activity ⭐️

Hello from the winter baby bubble 👋 I think I’m addicted to little craft projects. Currently worked on between the hours of 4 and 6am at a bench with baby in a carrier… I know, Not sustainable. Luckily this season changes every week!

Just finishing some hanging toys from scrap felt for the play gym Frase and the little chick knocked up from ply off cuts and realised he’s on the quilt I made from thrifted fabric, wearing a hand-me-down onsie 🫶🏻

Reusing materials to make things, often sewing projects has been a constant in my life for as long as I can remember. Long before the love of cooking and recipe development. Anyone else need to constantly have a little project on the go??

Flavour bomb 💣 Roast Veg Chickpea masala curry | on the website under recipes 🫶🏻

The perfect cozy dish for these blustery wintery days - I wrote this recipe when we had an abundance of cherry toms, eggplant and zucchini growing in our veggie patch so it’s actually a perfect late summer/ early autumn recipe but the veggies can easily be swapped out for what is in season. ( tip: see cooks notes in my online recipes )!

I can’t say this about every recipe, because - real life, but our ( recently ) 4 year old loves this! Especially with the easy flat breads she loves making with me! Which, if you’ve ever served up food to little children hoping they will eat it you will know is pretty darn exciting. Late thirties thrills 😂

Anyway, give it a try and have a cozy weekend 🥰

MARCH MAKES 🪡 🧵 👉🏼
ok, maybe a little bit of Feb too!
Looking back on what I have made from thrifted materials this month 🙌🏼
So happy with this batch of 20 Re-Loved by Harry cross body bags and 10 pairs of kiddos “picnic party pants” made of thrifted and vintage fabric. It might not seem like a lot considering what can be pumped out of factories and zoomed around the world these days but it’s quite a lot with the small windows of time I have had 🥰 plus every single one is individual 🙌🏼
I’m also thrilled I started making a quilted jacket for myself while it was still warm ( key for longer seasonal item projects ) so I can get the most use out of it this autumn and winter!
The bags and pants will be up on the website this Tuesday 8th April at 10am AEST and there will be a link to shop landing in your inbox and on the Re-Loved shop update channel then 🙌🏼
This is the last little batch of hand-sewn goodies for a wee while and I think I’m going to miss it but I’m sure I’ll have plenty to do! 😆🤰

Can’t stop. Won’t stop 🪡 🧵 ♻️
Actually, I probably will when I have a small babe to take care of 24/7 again 😆
But my intention is to have a batch of bags and a small batch of patchy picnic kiddos pants up online before then. 👀
As well as a couple of seasonal, delicious plant based whole food recipes I’ve been working on.
I’ll be sending first dibs on #relovedbyharry goodies via email and the shop update channel here ( link in profile ) so make sure you are on those if you have been waiting on something.
Had a bit of fun last week creating this “made montage” of a few bits and peices I’ve made over the last year or so for the little chick and I from thrifted fabrics. All very much worn and washed and loved and used by now. Not pictured: grifted things I’ve made for others and a LOT of cross body bags ✨

⭐️ Easy plant-based wholefood gingerbread ⭐️

Adapted from a very popular Natural Harry recipe - the best ever choc chip cookies. Since they are so quick, easy and delicious I thought I would have a go at removing the choc chips and adding spices for a delicious and super easy gingerbread you can make in under 15 mins from woe to go 🙌🏼 enjoy x

Makes: about 20 small to medium cookies or 10 large gingerbread people
Prep time: 2 minutes

⭐️3/4 cup smooth nut or seed butter of choice ( I used almond. The milder flavoured butters will not overpower the spices. Eg cashew, almond and macadamia )
⭐️1/2 cup maple syrup
⭐️2 tablespoons molasses (or pomegranate molasses )
⭐️1 teaspoon vanilla
⭐️1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
⭐️2-3 teaspoons ground ginger
⭐️1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
⭐️Pinch salt
⭐️2 cups almond meal

Optional: 2 tablespoons arrowroot powder to sprinkle on bench for rolling.

Preheat oven to 170 degrees celsius fan-forced and line 2 large baking trays with compostable or reusable baking paper.

Combine nut or seed butter, maple, molasses, spices and salt in a large bowl. Whisk to combine.

Add the almond meal and mix until well combined. You might find you have a crumb-like texture at first. You can then use clean hands to continue to mix and combine the cookie dough until it comes together.

Roll dough into a large ball, sprinkle bench with arrowroot powder and roll to about 1cm thickness. Use a cookie cutter to cut into desired shapes. Place each cookie on your lined tray a couple of centermeters apart.

Place in the oven for 10 - 12 minutes. Checking at 10 minutes.

Allow to cool and enjoy 🎄

I think I first mentioned I would love to be able to share my Re-Loved Cross-Body-Bag as a make-along video & pattern way back in April!
Turns out there was a bit to digitising my hand drafted pattern and creating a clear video of the process but here we finally are 😆
I can’t wait for you to bring this everyday essential to life while entering that beautiful ‘state of flow’ that comes with a creative project!
Bonus, you can use up some scrap fabric or old clothes and you don’t need an overlocker ( woo hoo! )

STAPLES

Hummus, yogurt, butter, healthy-mite, milks, pickled red onion, sauerkraut, cashew cheese, Oaty seed loaf, seedy grain crackers, garden pesto, beetroot and dill relish, hummus, choccie spread and chia jam.

These are a few of the basic staple recipes across my 3 books and free online recipes.

I don’t make ALL of these ALL of the time, just where and when I can. Focussing on what I have managed rather than what I have not. Making my own staple pantry and fridge essentials not only saves money but also saves on some of the unwanted extras that exist in a lot of packaged products. Such as artificial preservatives, emulsifiers, flavour enhancers etc.

Some of them last weeks to months and take mere minutes to make. I’ll definitely be making a few for Chrissy gifts again this year!

They say 90% if your behaviour is habitual and it has definitely taken some effort and time to form these habits but gosh it is so worth it. This week I have made hummus, pickled red onion and garden pesto with parsley, dill and coriander. So yum 😋
